Identification
11.5-13 cm
Adult
- Brown upperparts, streaked black
- Rusty-brown rump
- Dark cap
- Strong white supercilium
- Longish, broad rounded tail
- Whitish underparts
- Buff flanks
- Greyish-brown legs
Immature: fine streaking on breast
The sexes are identical.
Distribution
Breeds throughout Europe and Asia, winters in sub-Saharan Africa.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Reed beds with bushes. Damp ditches.
Behaviour
Breeding
The clutch of 3-5 eggs are laid in a nest made low in dense reeds or a bush.
Diet
The diet includes insects and berries.
Flight
Compact outline, strong but fluttery flight. Hops.
