- Rusty-brown rump

- Longish, broad rounded tail
- Whitish underparts
- Buff flanks
- Greyish-brown legs
Immature: fine streaking on breast
The sexes are identical.
Distribution
Breeds throughout Europe and Asia, winters in sub-Saharan Africa.
