Identification

11.5-13 cm
Adult

  • Brown upperparts, streaked black
  • Rusty-brown rump
  • Dark cap
  • Strong white supercilium
  • Longish, broad rounded tail
  • Whitish underparts
  • Buff flanks
  • Greyish-brown legs

Immature: fine streaking on breast
The sexes are identical.

Distribution

Breeds throughout Europe and Asia, winters in sub-Saharan Africa.
