Columbina squammata

Identification

Blackish edging to the feathers give it a scaled look. Long pointed tail. Rufous patches on the wings.

Distribution

Northerly population found in Colombia and Venezuela. Southerly in Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina.

Taxonomy

There are two separate populations. The northerly one, Scardafella squammata ridgwayi and the southern nominate subspecies, S. s. squammata.

Habitat

Shrubland, and wet or flooded lowland grassland.
