Location: Old Warden, Bedfordshire, UK

Identification

Light brown back, grey breast and buff belly, white face, black gorget, rufous-streaked flanks and red legs.

The call is ka-chu-chu.

Distribution

France, Iberia and now naturalised having been introduced to southern England.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Dry lowlands, farm land, stony areas.

Behaviour

10-16 smooth, glossy, yellowish-white eggs with reddish-buff or greyish markings are laid in a ground nest and are incubated for 23-25 days.

Its diet includes seeds, but insects are taken when young.
