Identification

24cm. Red brown head, neck and breast, paler on throat, grey brown upperparts, underparts and underwing barred black and white, green bill, red legs and feet.

Distribution

North-eastern India, southern Burma, Thailand, Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Indonesia and Philippines.

Taxonomy

A monotypic species.

Habitat

Lowlands; dense vegetation near wetlands.

Behaviour

3-6 dull white eggs are laid.
