- Cryptospiza reichenovii
Identification
Males: The back, rump, wing coverts, flanks, lores, and areas around the eyes are red, green throat, grey-green body, dark brown eyes with a red eye-ring. Black beak, brown-black legs and feet.
Females: buff face, has a yellow eye-ring. Juveniles are brownish green and the red on the back is missing.

Cryptospiza reichenovii has three subspecies:[1]
- C. r. reichenovii
- C. r. ocularis
- Mountains of the Albertine Rift
- C. r. australis
- Tanzania to Zimbabwe and adjacent Mozambique
Habitat
Forest.
Behaviour
They build a nest out of grass, moss and fibres, usually in a low, dense bush. 3-4 white eggs are laid and incubated for 12-13 days by both parents. The young leave the nest after 20-21 days.
The diet includes seeds and insects.
