Identification
8–9 cm (3-3½ in)
Male
- Dark blue head, neck, upper mantle, wings and tail
- Yellowish-orange back and underparts
Female: lacks the orange colouring and has grey, rather than blue, upperparts.
Distribution
South Asia: Bangladesh
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Borneo, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java, Bali

Habitat
They live in a variety of forests including dipterocarp, lower montane, lowland and highland heath, peatswamp; found mostly in forest edges at various altitudes, for instance from mangrove swamps north of Kota Kinabalu and also on the slopes of Mt Kinabalu at a height of 600 - 700 ft
