Identification
24 - 28cm.
- Leaden grey above, paler below
- Blackish alula and flight-feathers
- Rufous-chestnut underwing-coverts, bend of wing and undertail-coverts
- Orange-yellow to dark brown eye
- Blackish bill and legs
Sexes similar but females are smaller than males.
Juveniles have brownish wings and are variegated rufous-white and blackish below.
Distribution
Endemic to New Caledonia (Grand Terre and Ile des Pins).
Fairly common restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly placed in the genus Coracina, sometimes placed in the genus Edolisoma.
Habitat
Dense primary mountain forest above 200m.
Behaviour
No information about diet or breeding.
