Identification
13cm. Black head, broad white stripe above each eye and down the side of the neck. Black upperparts, white wing patch, chestnut tail, underparts a rich orange-red. Female - pale brown head and upperparts, paler orange underparts.
Distribution
Atlas Mountains of northwest Africa.
Taxonomy
Habitat
Open woodland in rocky areas in the mountains.
Behaviour
Its nest is built in a bush or on the ground and the clutch is typically 3-6 eggs.
Diet includes insects.
The male's song is a mixture of rasping sounds and svee-svee notes. The call is a plaintive single note, heeh.
