Identification
13-15cm
- Olive-brown upperparts
- Paler underparts
- Whitish throat
The sexes are identical
Immature: more rufous upperparts and yellower below
Confusion Species
Distribution
Breeds in Europe to central Russia and Asia; migrates to Africa.
Taxonomy
Habitat
Found in areas of dense vegetation; nettles, reeds etc beside streams and ponds, with taller bushes nearby particularly as perches for singing.
Behaviour
Breeding
Three to six eggs are laid in a nest in reeds or low vegetation.
Diet
Diet includes insects, and occasionally berries in autumn.
Vocalisation
Well known for mimicking other species of birds.
