Identification

Distribution

Patchily distributed in South America. Found in south Brazil, Paraguay and North Argentina. Has been observed several times there near Misiones and in East Paraguay in the 1990s after a long gap since 1954. Due to the difficulty of observing this species when it's not calling, it may be overlooked and is possibly more widespread than believed. The high rates of ongoing deforestation in its range is clearly putting this species at risk of extinction.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Forests.
