Identification
Ages/sexes differ slightly.
The female lacks the extensive black over the supercilium.
Similar Species
The face pattern is unlike any other species except the Yellow-throated Warbler; ranges differ, though. Grace's lacks the white patch on the side of the neck of the Yellow-throated Warbler.
Distribution
Southwest United States from southern Nevada, southern Utah, southern Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico south to Nicaragua; The northern birds draw south in winter.
Taxonomy
Formerly placed in genus Dendroica.
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies1:
- S. g. decora - breeds pine ridges of Belize and lowlad pine savannahs of e. Honduras and ne. Nicaragua
- S. g. graciae - breeds southwest United States and northern Mexico
- S. g. remota - breeds in the highlands of s. Mexico south to n. Nicaragua
- S. g. yaegeri - breeds Mexico from Durango and Sinaloa south to Jalisco
Habitat
Widespread in pine forests. Transitional Life Zone dominated by Ponderosa Pine with some Douglas Fir. Observed at heights around 2,438 m (8,000 ft) elevation.

Vocalisation
Call: A fairly hard chick or tchik.
Song: a rapid series of chips, often run into a faster ending, chi-chi chi-chi-chit chi-chi-chi-chi-chi-chu or chu-chu-chu-chu chichichichichichichi, etc.
