Distribution
Eastern Europe to Central Asia, and Africa.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Mainly open lowland areas with scattered trees or adjacent to patches of woodland, sometimes marshes.
Behaviour
It nests in trees, building the nest from branches, grass and feathers. 2-3 eggs are laid and incubated for 45 days.
The diet includes squirrels, rodents, foxes and birds.
