Identification

- Brownish-olive upperparts, hindneck, flanks
- Slate-grey crown, sides of head, underparts
- White throat
- Pale unbarred buff rear abdomen and undertail coverts
Similar species
Paint-billed Crake is barred on the rear underside
Distribution
Central and South America: found in central Panama to western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador.
Taxonomy
Formerly lumped within Paint-billed Crake (N. erythrops).
Placed in genus Mustelirallus by Clements.

Habitat
Wetlands, pastures and forest edges. Found at heights up to 2,100m.
