Identification

13cm. Grey upperparts, rufous belly and underparts, black eyestripe, colours vary between subspecies, dark iris, grey bill and legs.

Distribution

Bangladesh, Cambodia, Bhutan, India, China, Nepal, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

Taxonomy

It has been split into 3 species:

  • Sitta castanea
  • Sitta cinnamoventris
  • Sitta neglecta

Habitat

Hills.

Behaviour

It nests in a hole or crevice.

The diet includes insects, nuts and seeds.
