Identification

50cm. Finely streaked, buffy undersides, dark brown barred upper parts, prominent white patch on forehead above bill, bright yellow iris, prominent ear-tufts.

Distribution

Indonesia, Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Cocos Islands, India, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Taxonomy

There are 4 subspecies.

Habitat

Moist montanes, woods and forests.

Behaviour

The diet includes fish and other aquatic life.
