Identification
42cm. Summer - pale brown head, white-grey body, black tail, red bill and legs. Winter - head has dark streaks.
Distribution
South-central Asia, wintering to Arabian Peninsula, India, and south-east Asia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species which is sometimes places in genus Chroicocephalus.
Habitat
Marshes, reedbeds, lakes.
Behaviour
It nests on the ground.
