Identification
20 cm. Male - blue-grey upperparts, pale grey underparts, grey-white face, black flight feathers and outer tail feathers, black marked wings, red or yellow iris, bare green eye ring, pink legs. Female - grey-brown head, neck and breast, pale blue-grey underwings and belly, ruddy brown back, chestnut rump and tail.
Distribution
Southeastern Mexico, northwestern Peru, northern Argentina, and Trinidad.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Humid open woodland, forest edges, clearings and roadsides, to 1200 m.
Behaviour
It builds a flimsy dish shaped nest of twigs; 2 white eggs are laid.
The diet includes seeds and insects.
