Distribution
South-eastern Australia and Tasmania.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Varied, from open forest and woodland, through heath and scrub communities to coastal sand dunes and salmarshes, including grassy paddocks, farmland, gardens. Generally common coastally and in Tasmania, usually scarce elsewhere. At heights up to 1200m.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes seeds, blossoms, fruit and insects.
Breeding
The nest is built in tree hollows or stumps, with a bed of decayed wood. The female incubates the eggs; both parents feed the young.
