Identification

15cm.

Distribution

Asia: found in China, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Western Himalayas, Bhutan

Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

Polytypic. Consists of four subspecies:

  • C. p. pulcherrimus:
  • C. p. waltoni:
  • South-easter Tibet to south-western China (south-western Xinjiang)
  • C. p. argyrophrys:
  • Western China (Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu and western Sichuan)
  • C. p. davidianus:
  • Central Mongolia (south to south-western Inner Mongolia)

Sometimes split into two species, Himalayan Beautiful Rosefinch (pulcherrimus) and Chinese Beautiful Rosefinch (waltoni, argyrophrys and davidianus).

Habitat

Temperate shrubland and high-altitude shrubland.
