Identification
41 cm. Upper parts barred black with chestnut, display plumage iridescent green and violet, long tail.
Distribution
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Taxonomy
There are 3 subspecies
- M. u. unchall
- M. u. minor
- M. u. tusalia
Habitat
Boreal forest and moist lowland forests.
Behaviour
The diet includes fruits, seeds and berries.
The nest is a large platform of twigs; 1 slightly glossy or cream, occasionally with a small number of olive-yellow speckles and spots, egg is laid and incubated for 16 days; the young fledge after 19 days.
