Notable Species

It has been said Barr Lake State Park has witnessed more than 350 species of birds, both resident and those migrating. Also said is it has been the wintering location of numerous Bald Eagle and it seems one pair stays to nest and raise its hatchlings each year.

Rarities

With so many species coming here that meet the rare criteria, the best choice is probably to consult one of their checklists for information in this category.

Birds you can see here include:

Vesper Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird, European Starling, American Robin, Canada Goose, Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, and American Kestrel to name a few.

There can be many more depending, in part, on the particular season you are there.

For more information about species seen there, stop by the office for a checklist.

The water access and availability of grasses for livestock was an attraction to people in their movement.
