A deciduous woodland containing English Oak, Ash and Birch, this reserve also has an understorey of Hazel and adjacent pastureland. The birdlife of this wood is typical of a southern English woodland.

Breeding species include various warblers and tits, Common Treecreeper, Eurasian Nuthatch, Tawny Owl and Great Spotted Woodpecker but there are no particularly scarce or unusual species.

The plants of the reserve include Wild Daffodil, and along the stream grow Golden-scaled Fern and Pendulous Sedge. Insects of note include Golden-ringed Dragonfly and White Admiral butterfly.
