Identification
14 cm (5½ in)
- Dark barring on tail
- White throat
- Whitish or dirty greyish-buff underparts
- Long bill
Distribution
Asia:
Asia: Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, China, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Burma
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- C. h. taeniura:
- Central Asia and Afghanistan (north of the Hindu Kush)
- C. h. himalayana:
- Eastern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan and Himalayas (east to central Nepal)
- C. h. yunnanensis:
- C. h. ripponi:
- Western Burma (Mount Victoria)
Habitat
Boreal and temperate forests. Also well wooded areas in winter.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of insects, spiders and small invertebrates.
