Identification
Dark barring on tail, white throat, and dull whitish or dirty greyish-buff underparts.
Distribution
Asia:
Asia: Russia, Turkestan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, China, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Burma
Taxonomy
Subspecies[1]
There are 4 subspecies.
- C. h. taeniura:
- Central Asia and Afghanistan (north of the Hindu Kush)
- C. h. himalayana:
- Eastern Afghanistan, northern Pakistan and Himalayas (east to central Nepal)
- C. h. yunnanensis:
- C. h. ripponi:
- Western Burma (Mount Victoria)
Habitat
Boreal and temperate forests. Also well wooded areas in winter.
