Identification
7,5cm. A tiny woodpecker
- Pale yellow underparts
- Brownish bars on breast
- Brownish streaks on belly
- Black head with white spots
- Male has yellow forehead spots
Juveniles are duller brown and have streaked (not spotted) markings below
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil.
Poorly known, seems to be uncommon but possibly overlooked.

There are 7 subspecies.

Habitat
Humid terra firme forest and varzea forest.
Seen mainly at edges and in clearings, also in second growth.
Behaviour
Breeding season probably June to November. No other information.
