Identification
Black cap, maroon throat and underparts, black and yellow wings and tail, turquoise hooked bill.
Distribution
Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Taxonomy
There are 5 subspecies.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests.
Behaviour
They build a pear-shaped nest with a distinct tail, which is suspended from a side branch of a large tree, often close to the main trunk. The entrance, completely covered by a long, slanting porch, is at the upper half of the nest. The nest is built from twigs, bamboo and other leaves, grass and fern stems and roots. The outside of the nest is decorated with bryophytes, lichens and cobwebs while the inside is lined with leaves.
