Arjeplog Sweden


  A town in the southern part of Swedish Lapland on the shores of Lake Hornavan,  the area around the town has many lakes and bogs and large areas of coniferous forest and birch woodland. Famed for the small number of breeding Smew, there are also Black-throated Diver, Greater Scaup and Common Goldeneye. Breeding waders include Whimbrel, Jack Snipe and Spotted Redshank, Greenshank and Wood Sandpiper. The forested and wooded areas are home to Bohemian Waxwing, Siberian Jay, Siberian Tit and Great Grey Shrike. 
  The town of Arjeplog has hotel and hostel accommodation and the Stensund area to the east is one of the best birding areas.  Leave the E4, the main Baltic coast road, at Skelleftea.
