Carduelis dominicensis
Identification
Male: mostly yellow with greenish back, black hood that includes throat, and yellow bill. Notice also the pattern on underside of tail, pale with black tip.
Female: mostly greenish. Underside is paler with greyish-green stripes. Upperside has whitish wing bars and yellow edges making a panel on the folded wing. Upperside of tail is black with yellow patches on the basal half.
Distribution
Hispaniola: Dominican Republic and Haiti.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly included in genus Carduelis.
Habitat
Montane pine forests and at least seasonally in broadleaf. Usually above 500 m asl.
Behaviour
Food is seeds and fruit.
Nesting usually in pine forest.
