Distribution
Breeds from Caspian Sea to extreme western China; winters in eastern and southern Africa.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Salt ponds, grassland and arable land.
Behaviour
Breeding
They nest on the ground; 3 eggs are laid. They are thought to be monogamous.
Diet
There is little detailed information available, however, they eat insects and their larvae. During the breeding season their main diet consists of beetles, grasshoppers and ants,
