Identification
One of the largest of the Empidonax flycatchers at 15cm in length. Distiguishable from many flycatchers by lack of an eye ring.
Similar Speices
Usually indistinguishable from Alder Flycatcher except by voice. Flatish forehead, peak on rear of head. See also Empidonax.
Distribution
U.S. except for southeast Mexico.

- E. t. traillii - Breeds from Great Plains to ne US and se Canada; winters to nw S America
Habitat
Low brushy areas often near water.
Behaviour
They make a cup nest in a vertical fork in a shrub.
The diet includes insects and berries.
