Distribution
Asia: found in China, Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Hong Kong
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand
Taxonomy
Sometimes placed in the genus Megalaima.
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]

- Eastern Nepal to central Assam
- P. v. clamator (mayri):
- P. v. virens (indochinensis):
Habitat
Montane groves and light forests with large trees.
Behaviour
Diet
A wide variety of fruits berries plums etc, especially fond of figs.
