Identification
13.5 cm.
- Grey-brown crown
- Large bright yellow coronal patch
- Indistinctive whitish lores
- Broad white supercilium extending downwards behind blackish auricular region
- Narrow broken whitish eyering
- Brownish-olive upperparts
- Dusky wings with two indistinct to nearly absent yellowish wingbars
- Greyish-olive tail
- Grizzled whitish face
- Flammulated pale greyish-white throat and breast
- Pale yellow rest of underparts
Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.
Distribution
Western Ecuador and northwestern Peru (essentially limited to Tumbesian areas).
An uncommon to fairly common restricted-range species. Has declined due to widespread deforestation.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Habitat
Deciduous forest and semi-humid gallery forest and woodland. Also in secondary scrub but avoids humid forest.
Occurs in lowlands and foothills up to 1750 m.
Behaviour
Perches upright. An inconspicuous and quiet species.
Diet
Not well known.
Forages usually singly, seldom in mixed-species flocks.
Breeding
No information.
Movements
Presumably a resident species.
