Identification
Only flicker in most of its range. Distinguished from Andean_Flicker of the higher Andes by its heavily barred belly. [2]
Distribution
South America: found in Chile (Coquimbo to Magallenes), and adjacent Argentina.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Shrubland up to 1500m, Notophagus forest and open woodland. [2]
Behaviour
Like other flickers, forages on the ground for ants and other insects as well as in trees. [2]
