Identification
14.5cm. Male: yellow crown, cheeks, and throat, violet grey occiput and nape, extending as a stripe to eye, green-grey upper back and wings, cobalt blue lower back, rump, and upper tail-coverts, violet blue primary and secondary-coverts and inner secondaries, paler on secondary-coverts, green-yellow underparts, deep blue under wing-coverts, undersides of flight feathers bluish-green, tail green above, dusky green below, horn bill with grey at base of upper mandible, brown iris and brown legs.
Female: like male, but lower back and rump pale blue; primary and secondary-coverts, secondaries, and bases to primaries green tinged with blue.
Distribution
Endemic to Peru.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species, which used to be included in Pacific Parrotlet.
Habitat
Dry woodland, riparian thickets and scrub.
Behaviour
The diet includes the seeds of balsas trees and cacti.
They nest in natural dirt and rock walls, in colonies, and 3-6 eggs are laid.
