Chelidoptera tenebrosa

Identification

Glossy blue-back, white rump and lower back, cinnamon belly, undertail coverts white. It looks plump and has a short tail and broad wings.

Distribution

Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, the Guianas, French Guiana, Guyana, Suriname, Peru, and Venezuela.

Taxonomy

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and swamps.

Behaviour

It digs a tunnel in sandy soil or earth to serve as its nest.

The diet includes insects caught in flight.
