Identification
20 cm. Olive green above, grey below, buff lower belly, buff throat edged black, grey head, white supercilium, green crown, black thick bill, black legs. Juvenile - duller, white-mottled blackish throat and breast, brown marked below.
Distribution
Southeastern Mexico, western Ecuador and northeastern Brazil.
Taxonomy
There are 5 subspecies.
Habitat
Dense vegetation. The Buff-throated Saltator feeds on fruit, buds, nectar and slow-moving insects. It forages at low and mid levels, sometimes with mixed species flocks.
Behaviour
The diet includes fruit, nectar, buds and insects.
It builds a bulky cup nest; 2 pale blue eggs are laid.
