Identification
Blakish upperparts,narrow white streak on wings,reddish maroon rump, black breast band separating reddish maroon throat patch and underparts together with blue maxilla and yellow mandible diagnostic. Juvenile-Throat and breast grey-brown. From juvenile Banded Broadbill by lack of yellow on upperparts. Voice-Short and coarse grating notes similar to cicades. Also a brief rising trill like Black and Yellow Broadbill but shorter and softer. Size-25cm.
Distribution
Myanmar and southern Indo-china through Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Bangka, Belitung and Borneo.

Behaviour
Frequents the middle and lower storeys,usualy near water courses. Generally unobtrusive,perching quitely in dense folige. Will also perch on low branches overlooking water. Nests are constructed mostly on branches overhanging water. Shy.
