Genus: Malacocincla
Description
This genus contains six species of Babblers from SE Asia. Two are almost certainly extinct, one not always accepted as full species, the other only known from one specimen in the 19th century.
They have in common:
- Long bill with upcurved lower mandible and hook-tipped upper mandible
- Conspicuous rictal bristles
- Strong legs and large feet
- Tail considerably shorter than wing
Taxonomy
Malacocincla is a genus in the Family Pellorneidae.
It was formerly included in the family Timaliidae.
Clements no longer accepts this genus and places the species in Pellorneum or Turdinus.
