- Rhinopomastus aterrimus
Identification
Length 26-28 cm. Glossy black with a short, weakly graduated tail. The black bill is shorter and straighter than that of the Common Scimitar-bill.
Distribution
Sub-Saharan Africa; Senegambia to Ethiopia and south to Angola and Zambia.
Taxonomy
Rhinopomastus aterrimus has four subspecies:[1]
- R. a. aterrimus
- Senegambia to western Sudan
- R. a. emini
- R. a. notatus
- R. a. anchietae
Habitat
Wooded savanna, bushland.

Vocalisation
A monotonous poui poui poui.
