Asia: China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Malay Peninsula, Indonesia, Greater Sundas, Sumatra, Java, Lesser Sundas

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 3 subspecies

• M. u. tusalia:

• Himalayas (Kashmir to Assam, south-western China and Burma)

• M. u. minor:

• Mountains of south-eastern China to Vietnam, Laos, northern Thailand and Hainan

• M. u. unchall:

• Mountains of Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Java, Lombok and Flores

Habitat

Boreal forest and moist lowland forests.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes fruits, seeds and berries.

Breeding

The nest is a large platform of twigs; the single egg, which is slightly glossy or cream, sometimes has a small number of olive-yellow speckles and spots, is incubated for 16 days; the young fledging 19 days later.
