Identification

  • Rusty back
  • Black and white streaked face
  • White throat
  • Streaked white crown, nape and back
  • Rusty-grey tail

Male: tawny flanks, thighs and lower belly. These areas are dark chestnut in the female.

Inland Gulf of Carpenteria (eastern Northern Territory to north-western Queensland).

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Sandstone outcrops, grassland and open woodland.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects and seeds.

Breeding

They build domed nests. The clutch consists of 2-3 eggs.
