Identification
14cm. Male - glossy black above, white below, black breastband, white wingbar, fleshy red wattles above the eye.
Female - grey-black upperparts, white wing bar, red wattles, small white patch below bill, maroon throat and breast are maroon, black breast band, white belly. Young males - paler, greyer versions.
Distribution
West, central and northeast Africa.

Woodlands, forests and gardens.
Behaviour
The diet includes insects.
It builds a cup nest made from lichen and cobweb, placed low in a bush or tree.
