Identification
Length 19-20 cm.
Adult: Black upperparts with yellow crown and white wing bar. Orange-red underparts with white undertail coverts.
Juvenile: Matt-black upperparts and dull red and buff underparts.
Distribution
Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.[2]
Habitat
Papyrus swamps, mainly below 1500 m.
Status
Classified as Near Threatened in the 2008 IUCN Red List.[1]
Behaviour
Usually in pairs.
Vocalisation
A whistled duet.
