Identification
63 cm
- Black upperparts with metallic blue sheen to head, hind neck, lower back, rump and uppertail-coverts
- White underparts
- Short head crest
- White wing patches
- Bare red skin beneath eye
- Pink feet
- Large orange caruncles
Distribution
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Sometimes placed in genus Phalacrocorax.
Habitat
Shores, rocky headlands, cliffs and islands.
Behaviour
Breeding
It nests in colonies. The eggs are chalky blue.
Diet
The diet includes small fish.
