Identification

Head and uppersides are grey, throat buffy, much of underside bay, white in tail and primaries.

Distribution

Found in south east Brazil in northern Sao Paulo (near Rio de Janeiro) and in Minas Gerais

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly considered conspecific with Gray-throated Warbling Finch with the name of Red-rumped Warbling Finch.

This species was in the past placed in genus Poospiza.

Habitat

Humid montane forests, less so in shrubland.

Behaviour

Mostly forages alone, in pairs of small groups, feeding on insects and seeds.
