Identification
- Upperside greenish to brownish olive.
- Wings darker but with greater coverts and flight feathers edged in yellow (no wing bars).
- Grey crown and side of face with a white supercilium ending shortly behind the eye.
- Underside with yellowish flanks and whitish (lightly striped) breast.
Similar species
Mistletoe Tyrannulet, especially those occurring in nearby areas, occurs at lower elevation, are smaller, shorter winged, and have less yellowish on the flanks.
Distribution
Southern Mexico (Chiapas), Guatemala, and western El Salvador
Taxonomy
This is one of the daughter species from the former Paltry Tyrannulet
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Highlands (500 - 2000 m ASL) in forest to semiopen areas as long as there are some trees and scrub. At least some of the birds migrate to lower elevation in non-breeding season.
Behaviour
Insects and fruit where especially mistletoe is important.
Vocalisation
A clear "pyeu" is a call ascribed to this species.
