Identification
Distribution
Nigeria to northern South Africa.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in the genus Macrodipteryx.
Habitat
Plateau woodlands.
Behaviour
The diet includes a variety of insects although scarab beetles are favoured.
The nest is made on bare ground, sometimes among leaf litter. Egg-laying coincides with full moon.
