Identification
Adult male - bright red, black wings and tail and pale yellow bill. Adult female - uniform scaly plumage of dull olive-green, yellow rump and pale yellow bill. The male is a much brighter red than any Rosefinch (Carpodacus) species that may be encountered in similar habitat. The female's scaly plumage differentiates it from female Rosefinches.
Distribution
Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.
